The Life Flow design, created by Rae Tsai and Jimmy Ko, is a small home office that seamlessly integrates into a residential space. The goal of this project was to provide functionality for the current owners, a couple with a newborn, while also allowing easy modification for future owners. The unique feature of this design is the central conference table, which serves as the focal point for conducting business. All other functional areas surround the workspace, creating a harmonious flow.
One of the standout features of the Life Flow design is the use of sliding doors as walls. This allows work to continue in the central office space while other family members can use other private spaces without interference. The flowing lines and open layout create a sense of fluidity and connectivity throughout the entire space.
To maximize natural light and create a sense of openness, walls were replaced with minimal cabinets and open shelves. This not only allows more light into the space but also provides ample storage for the homeowners. The open cabinetry and separating walls are highlighted with a black metal outline, adding a touch of contrast and protection against damage.
The Life Flow design features various types and grades of stone and wood flooring, emphasizing the functionality of each space. The use of different materials delineates public and private areas, creating a sense of hierarchy and purpose.
This small home office is part of a larger apartment that comprises 122m2 of interior space, including one bedroom, one living room, one conference room, one kitchen, one full bath, and one half bath. The layout is carefully designed to optimize the flow and functionality of the entire space.
Entering the property through a small entrance hallway, visitors are greeted with the central conference table, which serves as the heart of the home office. Sliding doors allow for the obscuring of all other functional areas surrounding the workspace, providing privacy when needed. This design allows work to continue seamlessly while other family members move freely through and use the other spaces in the apartment.
The Life Flow design was completed in May 2019 and was created with the future in mind. Knowing that the property will be sold by the current owner, the designers explored the surrounding properties and their price range to target the maximum resale potential while balancing remodeling costs. The design strikes a delicate balance between a small office/home office and a private residence.
This innovative design has been recognized for its excellence and creativity. The Life Flow design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award is bestowed upon outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that authenticate experience and resourcefulness. The Life Flow design showcases strong technical and creative skills and contributes to quality of life improvements, making the world a better place.
With its seamless integration of a small home office into a residential space, the Life Flow design by Rae Tsai and Jimmy Ko exemplifies the perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics. This design not only meets the needs of the current owners but also allows for future modifications, making it a versatile and timeless solution for any homeowner.
